Comprehensive Naturopathic Medicine

For Health. For Well Being.

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct primary health care profession with a comprehensive approach to improving your health and treating illness. It is based on stimulating and supporting the body’s innate ability to heal by removing or minimizing the obstacle(s) that obstruct this process.  This is done by the skillful use of natural medicines and physical therapies. Naturopathic physicians are specialists in preventative health care and treatments integrating modern scientific knowledge with traditional therapies.

The goal of naturopathic treatment is to address the underlying cause of illness and not just localized symptoms.  The symptoms of disease, like low energy, headaches or eczema are signs of abnormal underlying function and lifestyle habits.  The physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of the patient are taken into account when diagnosing and developing an individualized treatment plan. Mind and body must be assessed in order to truly address the origination of the illness. The Naturopathic Physician aims to treat the whole person.  Drugs and surgery are avoided, when possible.

Naturopathic Medicine has become an integral component in the continuum of health care, where it helps compliment and enhance service provided by other health care professionals, as well.

Nutritional Medicine

Food as medicine is the key underlying principle in natural health treatment.

Since most fresh foods today are grown in nutrient depleted soils, research shows that we are depleted in nutrients, as well. Simple changes to the diet can have a major impact on the treatment and prevention of chronic disease. A healthy diet is fundamental to any health and wellness treatment plan. Single and combination vitamins and minerals are used to treat specific conditions.

Botanical Medicine

Many of today’s synthetic pharmaceutical drugs on the market today originated from plants. Plants have incredible healing benefits that are found in the form of tinctures, teas and salves. Used correctly, considering all possible interactions with medications and supplements, botanicals may be used for the treatment of almost any condition.

Homeopathy

Founded in the late 18th Century by German Physician Samuel Hahnemann. Homeopathy stimulates the individual’s internal healing process with minute dilutions of natural substances derived from plants, minerals and animals. Based on the principle of “like cures like”, these remedies specifically match the different patterns of illness on the physical, mental and emotional state of the patient.

Traditional Chinese Medicine with Acupuncture

A 5000 year old medical system, based on the belief that health is determined by the balanced flow of vital energy (qi) through the meridians within the body. Assessment of the pulses, tongue and other physical exams lead to a diagnosis of the state of harmony of the organs and vital systems of the body. Imbalances are treated using herbs, acupuncture and dietary modification.

Physical Medicine

Naturopathic Physicians, as well as chiropractors, are licensed to use spinal manipulations (adjustments) within their scope of practice. Stress, poor posture, poor nutrition, injury and pain will affect the musculoskeletal system, leading to imbalances of the nervous system, and the rest of the body and its organs. Soft tissue, manual therapy and general structural manipulation are aimed to address muscle muscle imbalance, subluxations, joint disturbances that result in misalignment of the spine or extremity.

Lifestyle Counselling

This includes recommendations on appropriate stress management, sleep, physical activity, outdoor exposure, and mental-emotional health.
